I’m so lucky in my life. And also, I work damn hard to have what I have. Sometimes I think that the payoffs of hard work can look like luck to others. I also think it’s important to not confuse the two. I recently received the Bright Futures Award at The Best Of Blount through the Blount Partnership. And I couldn’t be more honored. I was categorized with other amazing small businesses and I feel as if we all won! It was a surreal moment and honestly, I don’t think my feet touched the ground for nearly a week!
With all of that being said, I truly feel as if the moment was not just mine, but a moment to bring awareness and shine a spotlight on who I do this work for…those in Elderhood, their loved ones and their caregivers. My goal is to be a change-maker with in our community; a disrupter of policies and practices and a challenger of stigmas, ideas and biases. This moment, showed me how hard work pays off and brought awareness to those I work with, and even for just a moment, their plight was illuminated because of who I am and what I do. Call it luck, call it hard work, I call it grit and devotion. For them and for me.
